After the amazing homebirth of my gorgeous baby girl, at about week 7, post natal depression kicked in big time! In retrospect I can see that it was creeping up on me, but it hit hard when Karl went back to work. He’d get up at 5am, and after that, I’d have panic attack after panic attack until I had to call his mum to come sit with me until the light of day had well and truly arrived. There didn’t seem to be any specific fear as such…it all felt physiological….and was in fact “hormonal” according to our amazing Naturopath, Katherine Chan. Long story short……I managed to stay off the anti-depressants (because I was breast feeding and did not believe the VERY limited research into anti-depressants and lactation) and we (only just!) made it through to the other side. Treya is now 18 months old, and the sun is well and truly shining again upon our household….but it has been a tough TOUGH journey for all of us.
So…..to honour the journey…the “struggle”, if you will….and to raise awareness about this very common, though often hush-hushed issue, I am donating 50% of (non GST) sales from my July exhibition at Gnostic Mana Cafe (Woy Woy) to P.A.N.D.A (Post and Ante Natal Depression Association) http://www.panda.org.au/
There will be a number of original works of art for sale at very reasonable prices. I hope you can pop in and check them out! (and spend some money too!! It’s a great cause 🙂 )
When? Sunday 8th July until Friday 3rd August.
Where? Gnostic Mana Cafe, Chambers Place, Woy Woy
